Sandra Palombo and the passage of time

Sandra Palombo's lyrics are characterized by a strong idea that from time to time, do you remember (The arrival of a steamer), noting the passage of time (Piazza della Repubblica), pain (A perforate the hymen) and the illusion of stopping time (I know). These ideas are strong, all bring him to the sphere of memory, have within them a figure Pascoli, a pasture that memory-axis-removal of dead time gave an important contribution to our poetry - linguistically unavoidable - the construction of a poem able to capture the most mysterious aspects of the human soul restless today.
As for grazing his father's death represents the end of childhood and family peace of mind, so for Palombo represents the loss of virginity, entry into the pain, the encounter with the annihilation of the physical, the discovery of the dramatic dimension of life. The inner door exit from childhood to reconsider verbs such as "fly, to die and break into" and thus opens the door to process more intimate and profound loneliness that is natural in the moment the final fulfillment of existence. And in this way, the loss of virginity made aware of death, where things are precarious and affections, the memory takes on a tragic dimension of contrast between the recalling of the time (all about the fantasy and the dream) and recalling the adult (tamed by reality and conscious chronological axis that beats the living). The spectacle of the ship that bears on the island (remember that Sandra Palombo lives on the island of Elba) the convicts has in itself the strength of a nineteenth-century press, the black and white films and the Risorgimento.
time and therefore its inexorable laws have plenty of space in the verses of Palombo. I know of in the text is highlighted with delicate but decided on over the years (white hair, approximately half) that distorts everything, but left intact the soul (the smile) that knows no age and that there is a companion of the human journey . The social side
enter into these lyrics. Emblematic is the text called Piazza della Repubblica. Already the title refers symbolically to our country and the elements (street furniture and human figures) are detectable symbols of allegory that results in "nothing is adolescence," the lock, as an inscription, marks the end of an era historical and personal back or not more destined to survive if not in the nostalgia of those who feel the end of a world without warning but the advent of another.
A text indicating the decline of Italian political life, the slow but inexorable closing in on themselves, the transition from political place par excellence, the square - a place for sharing and aggregation - the locked room, the private road that empties the cheating any dream can change through participation. Die symbols, the fathers of the Republic, carried away by the time they die and the Republic in this dawn of the millennium more and more resembles Heidegger night.

From unpublished collection The passage of time:

A perforate the hymen

A perforate the hymen was the farewell my father that I loved to observe
upside down in the living room while he smoked his pipe
with the friend who saw him fall from the deck of
enemy ship to fly, and die
violate the image of me
virgin death.

The arrival of the steamer

The arrival of the steamer was a show.
harnessed car landed in the net

dangling from the sky. Sometimes there was a phone
ground black
to wait until the convicts,
coming down with his hands chained
directed towards the face,
in an attempt to hide from view
shame;
were young I had imagined
old girl child, hospitalized in the house from the balcony

tightly with the heart,
before they close the gate to the pier.

not know I do not know those white hair.
not recognize them. The
smile.
E 'remained the same smile
the friend grew up with me.
in the story,
approaches the goal, it strengthens the affection

in our breasts marine
closed on three sides to oblige the route.

*****

Piazza della Repubblica

One after another, get sick and die
the sycamores in Piazza della Repubblica and
with them if they leave a country and its inhabitants,
the teachers by combing the sixties,
friends with books under his arm.

Together with travelers once,
slogans for peace
climb the steps of the anarchist and
once entered his room, down the street
nothing remains of adolescence.
